News from St Michael's Seekers

Well, it is a couple of magazines since our last report, so there is quite a lot of news to bring you up to date.

Let's go back to 2011 first!! We had a change to the venue for the Christmas party last year as we went to Wakefield instead of Leeds. We had a train ride from Outwood into town, then headed off to Pizza Hut for lunch. Everyone had a great time, pizzas being shared round, unlimited drinks and then for most the usual ice cream factory was stirred into action. Following this we headed off to the Wakefield Theatre and Opera House for the matinee performance of Aladdin. Not for the faint hearted, we were in the gods at the theatre, and it was extremely steep down the rows!! We had one Seeker on all fours climbing and descending the stairs at the side to get to and from their seat!!

So we moved into 2012 and the most crucial activity to consider was an urgent fundraiser as our funds were running dangerously low. It was quickly decided that we would run a coffee morning with stalls, and Church very kindly agreed to let us take over the February coffee morning in church. The timing was perfect, as so soon after Christmas we knew that people would have presents that could be recycled for whatever reason, and that each present offered would find a new home, and so we had a recycled present stall at greatly reduced prices, a tombola, book stall and cake stall. I'm not sure where all the cakes came from but it was one of the best cake stalls we have seen in many a year!

We were hoping for £200 to keep us going for a while, but we were all amazed to find the total raised was £451. In addition to that we received a few donations, one very generous (thank you) and the selling of Amy's biscuits raised £25 as well. Our account balance is now some £600 higher than the start of the year which is great news.

As we approach Easter we are preparing for a temporary change in leadership, as Glenn and Angela will be away for 3 months as Glenn takes his sabbatical. During the summer term we are pleased and grateful that Hilary and Chris have kindly agreed to help out with the leadership.

And finally, after a couple of years "playing safe" and holding our weekend away in East Ardsley, this year we are venturing off again, returning to our favourite haunt of Kettleness, on the coast, near Whitby. This will be in September, and will the first time many of our Seekers have been!!

Seekers is open to all in school years 6 to 13 inclusive.
